Basic Cover Letter

If you are reading this article, then you probably already know how to write a basic cover letter, or you are at least planning on writing one and need some advice. Both of these things are valid reasons for reading this article.

Now I will be the first to tell you that writing a cover letter is not easy. It is often the part that gets skipped over in the countless hours spent studying for interviews. But it does need to be done properly and correctly otherwise your application for a job, or hiring for that matter, may be rejected outright.

Basic cover letters should be no different than the rest of your other business writing. That is to say that they should be well-written, focused on the employer’s objectives and for what they are looking for in a candidate, and they should contain no grammatical errors.

Using that basic knowledge as a good start to learn how to write a basic cover letter, let’s take a look at what could be missing from this routine. Let’s add some details into the mix so that it makes sense when you see it. We will start with a question: What does your position require?

Not every job letter needs to be about the employer’s needs. We should, instead, provide a little bit about ourselves to make the reader feel like we are a real person. Think about what it would be like to apply for the job you are applying for and have to use the same cover letter as someone else who has already been hired. It would make me uncomfortable to read that letter.

The idea is to provide an additional angle for readers to look at your letter and have extra information that is relevant to them. If you want to be really bold, have them read the cover letter a second time to see if they will remember what you wrote the first time they saw it. You can also say that you read your cover letter one time and were surprised at what you found.

Next, we want to focus on how we can customize our letter for each of these positions. When trying to be a little more creative, you can include a professional photograph of yourself. By having your face in a picture, you are making your letter look more professional and make it easy for your prospective employer to remember it.

Also, if you have a professional photograph of yourself, then it will be a good idea to include this photo in your letter. This way, your prospective employer will be reminded of who you are and remember that you did not waste their time by getting a copy of your resume form.
